Configure the crystal window decoration: See the screenshots contained in the archive. There is a screenshot for each configurationpage available. The monitor application you can see on my desktop in the lower right is called Conky. It does not work on the KDE desktop, when you enable the icons. I don't use icons on the desktop, so I don't mind. Here is my conkyrc file. Have fun! Ya'ba BTW: nacholore posted a very nice matching splash screen on KDE-Look. Thank you very much! *[...] Here is a quick preview of one change that will happen in the next public release of my Embassy KDE theme. [...]

    *Hi there.

I'm not sure if you can suggest anything, but I really like your embassy theme and I'm having a problem with getting it to run with gtk apps. Qt apps are perfect. Gtk apps however don't use the qtcurve theme.

I've copied the gtkrc files, and also tried the gtk-qt-engine.

Neither seem to work. Mozilla has only two buttons correctly appearing, everything else is the ugly default. It's strange because it appears to be half right half wrong.

If you have any suggestions I'd be very grateful.

    Thanks.

    *Which distribution do you use?
#4 Anthony on 03/16/06 at 08:01 AM [Reply]
    *Gentoo
    AMD64
    KDE-3.5.1
    If that helps.
#5 Yaba on 03/16/06 at 09:09 AM [Reply]
*Hm... no, sorry. The only thing that I can suggest is to go into the Gtk-Qt Control Panel applet: Appearance & Themes -> GTK Styles and Fonts. Select QtCurve there. You may also want to check the environment variable GTK2_RC_FILES.

*After all, congratulations, great theme. I try to install it, but not works as I expect. I install the theme following the steps. Now I have a problem that is: I don't know where place QtCurve-0.34.tar.gz content files. My distro is Kubuntu 5.10 with KDE 3.4.3. Any help? I really like this theme.
    Regards,
#9 Yaba on 03/25/06 at 01:34 PM [Reply]
*You will have to compile and install QtCurve. As you are using Kubuntu, I would first try, if there aren't binary packages already available by running "apt-get install qtcurve".

Otherwise, extract it to a temporary directory and run

    cd QtCurve-0.34
    ./configure --prefix=$(kde-config --prefix)
    make
    make install

The last command must be run as root.

*Man ... this is the best theme i've ever used!

    This new release is AWSOME!

Great job! Keep up the good work!

    *ok
#13 Felix on 03/27/06 at 11:16 AM [Reply]
*It looks nice. You have a little mistake in your installation instructions:

    embassy.tar.bz2

is a tar.gz file and not in bzip format. I had to decompress it with

    tar xvfz embassy.tar.bz2
#14 Yaba on 03/27/06 at 12:51 PM [Reply]
*Thanks a lot of the hint. However the real error is that the format of the archive was wrong. I uploaded a new archive, which is really bzipped.

*I’ve been using the original embassy theme for about a month and I love it. Can’t wait to see what this one looks like. By the way, what are the apps running in the system tray?
#16 Yaba on 03/28/06 at 03:11 PM [Reply]
*In the system tray there are (from left to right): KPowersave, KMix, Kopete and amaroK
#17 CBarcley on 03/28/06 at 10:29 PM [Reply]
*Your theme looks really nice. Keep on the good work!
It will be smart if every conig file is downloadable itself and not only in the package. Updates will be easier.
I am having problems installing the Icon Theme. I only got "The file is not a valid icon theme archive." Could you help me?

#18 Yaba on 03/29/06 at 01:53 PM [Reply]
*Please see the prerequisites. This theme does not include the Vista Inspriate icon theme. Please visit the KDE-Look content page and check the comments or ask the author of the icon theme for help.

    *Hey, really like your theme!
But I'm having a small little problem:
as you proposed, I'm using taskbar2. Great thing, but the font of the application names is black with a bright outline.. this is quite badly readable.
In your screenshots, the font is white, how have you done that?
Cause the only way that i've found so far to configure the font color of the taskbar is to change the color of "Button Text".. but I don't want to have a white button text ;-)
#20 Yaba on 03/29/06 at 07:24 PM [Reply]
*In the advanced options choose 'Use Window background color for text'.
#21 frando on 03/29/06 at 09:00 PM [Reply]
    *hmm, which advanced options?
can't find any advanced options in colour settings, nothing of "Use Window background color ..." in the advanced settings of the control bar, and no settings at all for taskbar2. so where can I find the settings you're talking of?
#22 Yaba on 03/29/06 at 09:13 PM [Reply]
*It is in the advanced settings of taskbar2. Do a right click on the handle (you have to unlock kicker for that). Or check ~/.kde/share/config/libmtaskbarrc and set textColor=true
#23 Martin on 03/31/06 at 07:10 AM [Reply]
*I love you theme, but I'm having the same problem as a person above: GTK apps don't use the QtCurve engine.

I'm using Kubuntu. Also, when I go to "GTK styles and fonts" the mouse indicates that it's loading but nothing happens.
#24 Yaba on 03/31/06 at 08:44 AM [Reply]
*Do you open GTK styles and fonts directly through the special kicker menu? On my system it only works, when run from inside kcontrol.

As for the problems with the GTK apps, please go to the KDE-Look page of QtCurve and ask Craig Drummond. Maybe the solution can also be found in the forum there.

(Would be nice to notify me, when you have found a solution)
#25 Martin on 03/31/06 at 11:12 PM [Reply]
*Ok, I got to GTK styles and fonts through KControl and set it to QtCurve, restarted my system and everything works fine.

    Thanks a lot. Beautiful theme.
#26 Albert on 04/21/06 at 12:28 PM [Reply]
*excuses me effectively I am compiling QtCurve, but I receive this error. If you use a distribution debian (type debian, kubuntu, etc.. or mandriva) you can supply QtCurve package also to me?

    Thanks a lot and Bravo

excuses me for my English :-)

*The Embassy theme does not provide any configure scripts as it does not include any stuff that needs to be compiled.

So I guess you are talking about either QtCurve, Taskbar V2 or conky.

Nevertheless, you are missing the X devel packages. Install them and try again.
#28 Albert on 04/20/06 at 09:22 PM [Reply]
*<b>checking for X... configure: error: Can't find X includes. Please check your installation and add the correct paths!</b>

    hello

Hi I have this problem when use ./configure

    you can help me please?
    Thanks
#29 Yaba on 04/21/06 at 01:28 PM [Reply]
*On KDE-Look shulato offers a package for kubuntu: http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=38167

But if I were you, I would rather install the devel packages for your X server and try compiling. That kubuntu package might have several dependencies that are not fulfilled on a debian system.

However have you already tried an apt-get install qtcurve? You may have to add something to your sources list, but I bet that someone has packaged it. Even the apt repository for SuSE contains a package.

*Sorry, no... but I assume this may occur when taskbar v2 updates the screenshot of the application window.

Haven't noticed something like that however.

You might try to use the default taskbar instead using the 'transparency' scheme. Looks somewhat different, but maybe that would be OK for you.

    *Hi Dave,

sorry, no idea. Please go to the Taskbar V2 project at KDE-Look.org and post your question at the forum there.
#36 Grzegorz on 06/11/06 at 01:32 AM [Reply]
*In comment #5 you mention GTK-QT engine. Unfortunately it has several bugs I consider to be critical like this one: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2414
It is now fixed but there is no released version with this fix included. I thought QtCurve theme is both for QT and GTK so I do not GTK-QT right?
I followed instructions in QtCurve's readme carefully, especially this one:
    For GTK2:
    Copy
    /usr/share/themes/QtCurve/gtk-2.0/gtkrc
    ...to either
/etc/gtk-2.0/gtkrc To enable this theme for *all* users
...or ~/.gtkrc-2.0 To enbale for just yourself.

Alternatively, edit ~/.gtkrc-2.0 so that it looks like:
    include "/usr/share/themes/QtCurve/gtk-2.0/gtkrc"

Do I need something more to make it work properly?

PS. Scrollbars and buttons do came from QtCurve so it seems that QtCurve is used, but only partly somehow. See this: http://img81.imageshack.us/img81/1559/zrzutekranu36mq.png

*Hi, this is a very nice theme but I have run into a snag upon setup. I got the following error when doing "Make" on mtaskbarv2...
mtaskcontainer.h:72: error: extra qualification 'MTaskContainer::' on member 'dr awShadowText'
    any ideas?

    *Hello!

As the others said, your theme is awesome. However, I have some difficulties to make it work on my Fedora Core 5 installation. Menus and toolbars in GTK applications do not look as expected. See screenshot: http://img227.imageshack.us/img227/4359/zrzutekranu25gt.png

I use KDE 3.5.2 and Firefox 1.5.0.3 with standard theme. Can you help me?
#39 Yaba on 06/10/06 at 07:40 PM [Reply]
*Are you sure that your GTK apps are using the QtCurve Engine? To me it appears like that is a different engine.

    See comment #5 above.
#40 Yaba on 06/11/06 at 02:04 PM [Reply]
*Well, while the toolbar background seems to come from QtCurve, the widgets are certainly not. At least the scrollbar and the address bar look different.

You are right... QtCurve comes with its own GTK style, however as long as GTK-QT is installed it overrides the .gtkrc-2.0 settings. That's why you should check the GTK-QT settings to use the QtCurve GTK style directly.

However this is a QtCurve problem. Please check with Craig Drummond through the KDE-Look forum for QtCurve.
#41 Grzegorz on 06/15/06 at 05:06 PM [Reply]
*Thanks Yaba, it turned out to be bug in newest version of QtCurve. Another problem I encounter is outlined there: http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=16261#c151119

Taskbar seems to be not mantained anymore, have considered replacing it with something other?

*Hi there, just installed your great theme but i'm not sure how to fix this one snag.

The uppermost header (The bit with the cross, lower window... buttons) won't bevel. Everything else does including the toolbars below.

I've tried Style, QtCurve Configure, list views and set to bevelled? but doesn't work

    thanks

*On my Konqueror, I have a Google search plugin next to my address bar that I don't want. In your picture the address bar is squished next to another toolbar, but it won't let me do that. Any advice?
#50 Yaba on 08/03/06 at 02:52 PM [Reply]
*Right click on the toolbar and select 'Configure toolbar'. Remove the Location Bar from the location toolbar and then add it to the Main Toolbar.

To remove the Google Search Bar, go to Settings -> Configure Extensions and disable the Search Bar Plugin.

    *Hello!
A few months ago, I downloaded a wallpaper (or a style- I don't know, whether it was in it) that looked like the wallpaper in the theme "embassy".
there was just some wind-powered devices on the right side.
I hope you know what I mean, because I want that wallpaper again.

    *Hi Yaba,

Thanks a lot for investing so much time and effort in this fantastic theme. It's just the kind of thing I have been looking for and I love the new wallpaper.

I am building a new HTPC and plan on running FC6+KDE with Embassy.

Only, the resolution on the TV is 1920x1080. I don't suppose you could be persuaded to do a wallpaper that's 1920 wide? (I know, I might have to crop it to fit the widecreen format.)

    Thanks again,
    Rasmus
