Mission "Kubuntu Migration" Accomplished

Tuesday, February 26. 2008

After I had first Kubuntu impressions using a VMware image I finally did it. My SuSE 10.2 partition was wipped out and Kubuntu 7.10 "Gutsy Gibbon" has been installed. This happened several weeks ago. In the meatime I found several pleasant surprises while enjoying a Kubuntu installation for my daily work. However where light is there are also shadows.

This article supplements my initial review. I will use the same categories, where I feel there are updates worth mentioning as well as some new ones. Please consider this article as a delta to my first impressions. To get a full understanding of this review, please read my first Kubuntu impressions first.

Going to JAX 2008

Friday, February 22. 2008

Yeah! I'll be going to JAX 2008. JAX is the Java conference in Germany and I am looking forward to meet prominent Java developers, like Dierk Koenig, Stefan Tilkov, Angelika Langer and many more.

JAX 2008 is held in Wiesbaden from April 21st to 25th. I will be there for the three main conference days plus the workshop day on Friday. I already fear the need to choose between several talks that sound very interesting but are running in parallel. I guess I'll need a magic time turner like Hermine had in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Askaban.

WSDL Development Made Easy

Tuesday, February 5. 2008

The folks at Google developed relax-ws. This extension of RelaxNG provides a simple way to create and maintain a WSDL, when you are doing WSDL-driven development. By writing your definition in an easy to read Java like meta language you can easily create a complex WSDL.

While this looks pretty nice it makes me think about the sense of WSDL. Isn't the need for such a meta language to create a WSDL proof enough that WSDL is totally over engineered?
