WSDL Development Made Easy

Tuesday, February 5. 2008

The folks at Google developed relax-ws. This extension of RelaxNG provides a simple way to create and maintain a WSDL, when you are doing WSDL-driven development. By writing your definition in an easy to read Java like meta language you can easily create a complex WSDL.

While this looks pretty nice it makes me think about the sense of WSDL. Isn't the need for such a meta language to create a WSDL proof enough that WSDL is totally over engineered?

*You know, REST is not the answer to everything. REST was designed for accessing information systems in a resource centric way. SOAP in contrast was designed as RPC and SOAP is still better for pure RP calls, where no persistent resources are affected.
